CAN I GET A VISA IF I OWN A BUSINESS IN AUSTRALIA?

Foreign citizens may be able to start a company in Australia while living overseas, provided at least one Australian director is appointed. Suppose this is not possible, or you want to come onto Australian soil to take on a more hands-on role in your business (sole proprietorships and partnerships included). In that case, you will need a visa—specifically, the Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) visa (subclass 188). There are multiple streams under this program, each with distinct qualifying requirements. Your eligibility will depend on various factors such as the size and nature of your business, investment size and net worth, the Australian state or territory you are targeting, etc.

HOW MUCH DO I NEED TO INVEST TO GET A BUSINESS VISA IN AUSTRALIA?

Different streams of the Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) visa (subclass 188) program have unique investment requirements. Certain Australian states or territories may also have their own investment guidelines. For example, the Business Innovation stream has no investment requirements mandated by the Department of Home Affairs. However, the local authorities in various states and territories, including Queensland, Tasmania, and New South Wales, have minimum investment thresholds that must be met (AUD 200,000 upwards) for you to receive the mandatory nomination to apply for the visa. On the other hand, Home Affairs mandates investments of AUD 2.5 million and AUD 5 million, respectively, for Investor and Significant Investor stream applicants. Further, the investment is sliced and directed to specific asset classes (venture capital, growth private equity funds, and managed funds).

WHAT IS ENTREPRENEUR VISA AUSTRALIA?

The Entrepreneur stream of the Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) visa (subclass 188) program allows entrepreneurs with an endorsable innovative business idea to develop their business in Australia. CAN I MOVE TO AUSTRALIA IF I’M SELF EMPLOYED?

You may also be allowed to be self-employed with a Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189)-Points-tested stream, Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491), or even a Global Talent visa (subclass 858).

CAN I GET PR IN AUSTRALIA WITH MONEY?

The Investor and Significant Investor streams of the Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) visa (subclass 188) suit those who want to invest in Australia and obtain PR.
